Back at work - and no crises :-)

Didn't go to [livejournal.com profile] jimfer's birthday festivities at the weekend, as [livejournal.com profile] forbinproject had inked "Keep Free" into my diary for a surprise outing on Saturday. Nice boyfriend, gets many telepathy biscuit points - not 'Just One' - as this turned out to be:
  1. a trip to the Lord of the Rings exhibition at the Science Museum. Omigosh costume frenzy. You can't take cameras in, but a sketchbook is almost as good. Viatrix, my Grand Design character, will hopefully be wearing a version of Arwen's travelling dress at the next event; it's feminine but suitable for adventuring, and I want to get out a lot more. The sleeves show as gold in that photo but they're actually silver organza. Also spent about twenty minutes sketching the costume labelled as 'Dwarf Ambassador' - actually Gimli I think - which was a symphony of plaited leather/suede trim and heavy textured fabrics. Saruman also good, but nothing you couldn't think of yourself - only with unlimited time and money, more so. Eowyn's white dress is a simpler version of a copy of the Pre-Raphaelite 'Accolade' dresss I made for my character Leri a while back, so shouldn't be hard to reproduce.
Oh, there was armour and stuff as well. But gimli gimli gosh!

  2. ...then onto the London Eye, after sunset, lights winking all the way from Canary Wharf to Alexandra Palace. There was a floodlit steeple between St. Paul's and the river which I couldn't identify; if things get (even more) slack this afternoon will find a map on teh intaweb
  3. ...and ending up at Chez Gerard for scrummy food.

Voice has been coming and going over the last couple of weeks. Weirdly, I opened my mouth just now to speak to Jonathon the Co-Worker and all that issued was a strangulated high-pitched squeak. He's finding this quite funny. I'm finding it rather disconcerting. It's freezing in here, but as it's the first Monday in October the heating should be going on. It's a public institution, you know the score - heating ON first week in October, heating OFF last week in March. No matter what the weather outside is doing.

Finally I may lose my B-Movie cherry this Friday. Would be interested to know who out there is going?

They say you can't take cameras or phones in, but they didn't search us, we didn't have to leave our bags anywhere and phone cameras don't have flashes so are pretty unobtrusive. :) Even without a camera, it's a great exhibition.

No - the nice security guy told us just to turn phones off and keep the digital camera hidden away in the bag. Having seen how many photos are on the web, a notebook was definitely more useful!

I will be doing my bestest to be at B Movie, providing that my leg reduces in size and hurtiness enough to get my boots on!

eeep. Any news re insurance and bike?

[identity profile] cookwitch.livejournal.com 2003-10-07 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
The bike is all scratched up mainly on the right hand side but also on the left where the van hit so we will need:

2 new wing mirrors
2 new faring pieces
1 new mudguard
1 new exhaust if they will agree to that

WE need two new crash helmets, 1 new pair of leathers for me and probably a new bike jacket for both of us or at least new armoured inserts to out in them. The solicitor called today so things are a-rolling. Here we go again!!

The good news is I'm signed off work until next Monday so I can rest properly. Even better news is that I don't even feel a BIT guilty for a change!
