Cowboys

So, I go to Rome for the weekend to sing the Mozart Mass in C Minor. The downside is having to get up at 4am this morning to get the 6.35am flight back, to be in time to let workmen into the house to install our acoustic secondary glazing.

No, they're not the cowboys...

I get home to an email from co-worker. He is about to refresh production databases using the current development build, because he doesn't know how to make a new point release build. He didn't tell me that he had scheduled the upgrade for today. And he was working from home on Friday, and not responding to MSN when I contacted him (despite being off sick) to ask when he needed the new build. Oh, and the new build process has been fully documented for a couple of years. The process is in the documentation database, where it should be, where we keep all our documentation.

I have no authority to stop him doing this stupid thing. All I can do is grass him up to the boss, something I haven't done before; but after four years of trying, I am now really sick of trying to implement processes by persuasion.

Grass him up with no guilt whatsoever.

Complete idiot.

To quote Daffy Duck

You know what you have to do. We are not put on this earth in order to perpetually cover up for morons - mind you this philosophy if universally adopted could get me in some trouble in future.

Hope Rome wunnerful.

Ask yourself, if some horrendous thing happens as a result of this and your boss asks you whether you knew he was going to do this what would you do? Likewise, ask yourself what he would do to cover for you...

I'm very jealous. I want to go to Rome too.

Enjoy yourself.

Your co-worker is being negligent in his duty. Possibly grossly so. You should feel no guilt at all about telling the only person who can stop him doing something that could gark the whole operation.
