Red or White

Straw poll. I know that the winies* would want to know which wines before answering, but I'm vaguely interested in the general proportions among our friends. For instance, the mixed boxes that Virgin offer are usually 50/50, but we run out of the red before the white.

[Poll #655452]

*As opposed to winos.

Um... Some red, some water? I tend to chop and change, depending.... :-)

I generally prefer to drink white these days but if I'm in some doubt as to the quality then I'll go for red. Mediocre reds are more drinkable than mediocre whites and really really good reds are out of this world (though I rarely get the chance to drink that quality).

Of course, if I'm driving then mineral water.

That's the reason I voted for reds. I like both, depending on mood and what I'm eating, but cheapish reds are often reasonably pleasant and cheapish whites are often horribly acidic.

what... a winey and a wino?

[identity profile] renniek.livejournal.com 2006-01-19 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
What's so wrong about that?

No value judgement, merely feigned surprise.

Likewise, feigned shock/indignation

My husband--white all the way.

Me--um, Coke? Or just some still water, with ice.

See my reply to DT below - this is just a straw poll basically for Venice.

I am another one of those either really types.

[identity profile] westernind.livejournal.com 2006-01-19 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but all I'm doing is to see what rough proportion there is across my friends.

The actual reason is that the Italian caterers are quoting for 20 bottles of white wine for 40 people. And I had a feeling that most of my friends prefer red.

[identity profile] colonel-maxim.livejournal.com 2006-01-19 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
As a gut feeling, based on the comparitive speed that red wine disappears over white at parties, I reckon that you are right. I would say it is between 3:2 and 2:1.

In my experience, unidentified red is more drinkable than unidentified white...

I've voted for my preference, but would add another vote for 'red' for my man - not that the poll seems to need much help there!

I would always have both water and wine. As for the colour, it would almost certainly depend on whether it was to be drunk with food, and if so what the food was (e.g. red wine and fish is just all bad) but if on its own I'd go for red.

[identity profile] curlwomble.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
That's a very good point...though I respectfully disagree with my learned friend about the totality of a red wine and fish ban.
