EPD beaten off again
Evil Property Developer's latest 3-bed application: turned down flat by Redbridge Council. He didn't even get over the first hurdle. This is so good. It means we're not subject to the whim of the now-bored councillors, and means I don't have to run a planning committee campaign over Christmas.
The wording used in Redbridge's refusal is identical to that used by the Planning Inspectorate in their rejection of the 4-bed appeal over the summer, so it looks like the Planning Inspectorate's exasperation has put backbone into the Redbridge planners. The terms of the planning inspectorate's rejection were that pretty much any development will cause unacceptable traffic noise and loss of privacy to the houses on Green Lane, quite aside from the damage to the protected trees.
We haven't won - I don't think we'll ever win, as such, because EPD has an investment which he won't give up on. But he's going to have to have a substantial re-think.

cookwitch: if you read this, please do tell Mrs Architect and thank her for her advice.)

This weekend we just got news about our own private EPD who are trying to put in 5,000 houses, primary schools, shops, etc. between two small villages outside Ely without developing the transport links to support it.
Nevermind ruining the village atmosphere & destroying the countryside.
We've all signed letters to send to the council, but I'd welcome any other ideas you might have from your experience. x

2. Newsletters to go round to local people to keep them informed and gee them up.
3. 'Form letters' with SAEs, go door-to-door to explain and give them the form letters
4. Don't bother with petitions, they get ignored because it's so easy to sign one. Personalised is best
5. Get local councillor(s) on side. This is very effective
6. Don't assume anyone else will do anything because they probably won't.
7. It takes a lot of effort, it takes a lot out of you, Decide whether it's worth it. Don't do everything yourself. (With us, I do all the computer-based stuff and write things, but Lin at no. 71 does the door-to-door when necessary.)
8. If you already have local associations (neighbourhood watch? Parish council?) bring the matter up there because there will be other people who have energy and are active in the community, in order to share the load.
