Whilst [livejournal.com profile] forbinproject is deep in slumber, possibly fleeing an extended bout of anserine-based punning inflicted on him earlier, any sort of sleep is eluding me. Hello LJ world. Anyone else still up?

New job appears to be going well. I won't jinx it by specifying the ways in which it surpasses the last job, because no doubt the negative aspects are yet to reveal themselves. Although I do appreciate flexi-time. And mosaic-laid stone corridors to fill with the sound of clacking boot heels. And autonomy.

[livejournal.com profile] jimfer and I drove down to Hastings on Bank Holiday Monday. On arrival, we were greeted by three signs mounted vertically on the same pole. The first identified the town. The second proclaimed, Birthplace of Television. The third warned: Town centre is under 24 hours CCTV surveillance.

We had come to see Derren Brown, but unfortunately,he lost his voice and cancelled within an hour of the show. The trip wasn't wasted; as well as being excellent company, [livejournal.com profile] jimfer accompanied me for a walk along the beach, past the theatre (if the gentleman we had come to see had been on the premises and had it been summer, we might then have qualified as being 'between the devil and the deep blue sea' but in the circumstances, perhaps a bit of a stretch). Scampi and chips followed at a caff called Plato's, in which there was a birthday-blessed teenager and her two friends, drinking tea and eating cake in a nothing-to-do-in-Hastings sort of way. Having ascertained her name was Katie by dint of asking her - it's hard to refuse a strong direct question - I started with Happy Birthday, and her friends and the caff owner joined in.

The eBay vendor gave me my money back - sterling behaviour on his part. Now thinking of going to one of the London shows in May.

Tomorrow - or later today, I guess - we are going to my stepfather Pete's 65th birthday celebration. I have a card, but no inspiration for a present. What do you get for a man who is perfectly happy with what he already has? My mother has no idea either.
