[livejournal.com profile] vervain_ came to the rehearsal last night; think he liked it, he reckons he's going to audition next week, which means he could sing at the concert. In the meantime, I've been looking for an English translation of the libretto to find out what on earth we're singing about Found this story summary, and the full libretto in French - which Google can translate to English (sort of, and can't deal with line breaks).

Ah. I become enlightened. An explanation of why we appear to be pretending to be sylphs and gnomes at one point, also why the boys later sing in a Made Up Demon Language:

Mit aysko, merondor, mit aysko! Oh!
(Les démons dansent autour de Méphistophélès.)
Diff! Diff! me rondor, me rondor aysko!
Has! Has! Satan.
Has! Has! Belphégor,
Has! Has! Méphisto...

... and more in a similar vein. However, as [livejournal.com profile] vervain_ pointed out, they don't seem at any point to get round to singing the "tur" bit after the "Has". Perhaps even baby demons have more sense.
